Stuart Austin |
Born and raised into an Australian rural family, Stuart grew up working sheep and dogs on his parent’s small farm and spending every spare minute assisting his grandfather with his 450 head Hereford stud and commercial herd, where everything was achieved from horseback.
Upon graduation of Grade 12 in 2000, Stuart ventured to the vast wide open spaces of Australia’s Northern Territory to work in the beef industry. An experience that shaped who he is today and spanned over five years, of which three years were spent as Head Stockman of a crew of eight men and women, responsible for up to 60,000 head of cattle with access to 2.5 million acres.
In his spare time Stuart started colts for the many stations spread across the North. A brief break from the beef industry found him driving trucks and machinery on a road reconstruction crew, working his way from far north Queensland to the southern tip of Tasmania. However, it was less than 12 months and he found himself back on horseback in a 5,000-head feedlot in south east Queensland. Here, Stuart held the position of Livestock Coordinator with a very broad job description including the feed mill, commodities receivals, some administration work, as well as the day to day livestock duties.
May 2007 saw Stuart beginning a new chapter in his life when he embarked on the adventure of a lifetime - international travel. During that time, he has worked as a tour guide, taking overnight horseback trips into the mountains, a swamper/driller on an environmental and geotechnical drilling rig travelling all over Alberta, and as a farmhand on a pedigreed seed farm in east central Alberta. Stuart’s travel expeditions have taken him to Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, British Columbia, Vancouver Island, Montana, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas; and internationally to England, Scotland, Wales and Italy...with an extensive To-Do List!
This passion for travel and working in the agricultural industry inspired him to create Positive Perfection, with a purpose of helping others to experience once-in-a-lifetime opportunities working and living abroad.
Stuart became quite heavily involved in a number of industry organisations where he has had the opportunity to attend conferences and forums at a national and international level in Canada. He presently resides as one of two QLD Directors and the Secretary of the Future Farmers Network. This has opened up enormous opportunities within the business, and he now has employers based all over Australia and Canada. He was heavily involved with Young Farmer groups in Canada, on a provincial and national level, as well as numerous industry projects aimed at the human resource sector.
Stuart is also employed full time by Rural Industry Training & Extension, delivering training and assessing to trainees for entry into the beef industry. He has recently accepted a role as an International Business Development & Marketing Consultant with Beef Australia focusing on North America and Canada and Stuart’s past roles have included Chair of the Future Agriculture Business Builders and Green Hectares.
Stuart has a great belief in the agriculture industry and is committed to ensuring a sustainable and profitable food and fibre production sector in Australia into the future. Whilst he accepts there are many challenges to face, he prefers to focus on the subsequent opportunities that exist for growth. Through lively, engaging, and challenging presentations, it is Stuart’s intent to inspire and motivate young people in agriculture to be part of an exciting industry into the future.

Craig Ference |
Craig was born and raised in East Central Alberta on a cow/calf, feedlot operation. After finishing high school he took a year off and traveled to Australia to live and work. It was a very rewarding experience that has provided him with many life skills that have helped to shape who he is today.
Upon returning to Canada Craig attended post Secondary Education at the University of Alberta, completing a Bachelor of Science, further developing his skill set for the agriculture industry. Here he met so many valuable contacts whom he relies on daily and who have helped him in getting to where he is today.
Craig returned home to the family business and currently manages their Alberta and Saskatchewan properties with his father. Craig started hiring Australians four years ago for their cow/calf operation and has never had a regret or issue. It has been very rewarding for their family as well as for the Australian employees.
“We have been so pleased with the work ethics and abilities of these employees. We have been so satisfied in fact that I have joined up with Stuart Austin at Positive Perfection to recruit and place Australians with quality employers here in Canada.”
To Craig, Australians have a good-hearted, easygoing nature about them. They are well-rounded farm kids with rural roots. Craig feels that we seem to be losing these qualities in our young Canadians. Every year there are fewer and fewer quality farm kids available to employ. Our goal is to try and fill this void.
